As soon as you decided to take on the Paleo lifestyle, you instantly eliminated a variety of food items that appear on this list. How so, you ask? The Paleo diet simply doesn’t consist of the foods that are harmful to your health. With that said, sometimes it is important to remember exactly why you are avoiding the modern day diet like a plague. No pun intended. Here are some of the biggest inflammatory-causing foods that you probably had in your diet prior to turning Paleo.
Fun Fact: Instead of eating inflammatory foods, you’re now eating anti-inflammatory foods such as leafy greens, purple grapes, nuts, seeds and an abundance of colorful vegetables.
There are one too many problems that are associated with colas. Inflammation is only one of the many because it contains caramel coloring which is a chemical that is banned in several other countries. Oh, but America is not one of them! One 12 ounce cola has the amount of nine teaspoons of sugar. Again, this isn’t even the worst of this drink, which is a scary thought.
White Flour Baked Goods
With white flour, you get a large amount of white sugar since the starches break down into sugars as soon as they touch your mouth. So, it makes sense that these would raise your blood sugar levels extremely fast. Then, when you consider the gluten amounts, you also have indigestion problems on top of the inflammation. It doesn’t sound pleasureful. Instead of using white flour, opt for coconut flour or almond flour.
Artificially Dyed Candy
Candy is sugar. Sugar is bad. However, the artificial dyes used in candies are made from petroleum and gasoline byproducts which can cause disruptions within your body’s chemistry and hormone function. In addition, some researchers have linked the coloring to ADHD, migraines, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. So put the gummy bears, lollipops and sour patch kids down!
Fried foods are never a good idea, whether it’s french fries or fried chicken. Fried calls for awful inflammation. However, french fries and potato chips are amongst the worst varieties because you also have the starchy elements added to the problem. Both items aren’t Paleo – just for the record – and for good reason.
Sausages are meat, so they’re Paleo, right? Well, bacon is also meat but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you should be eating it every single day. The biggest problem with both sausages and bacon is the nitrates which is a cancer-causing chemical that also causes inflammation.
The best thing is that you really don’t have any reason to put yourself at such risk because you can find much tastier things on the Paleo diet that won’t try to kill you in the process.
