Many people enjoy dining on Chinese food within Westernized countries, and unfortunately, the truth is that what you consider to be Chinese food probably isn’t actually remotely close to the foods that can be found over seas. Why is this, you ask? Because it’s been Westernized which means that traditional Chinese food dishes have been modernized and stripped of their nutritional and traditional values. So many of those restaurants you like to order takeout from isn’t real Chinese food, but if it’s a taste you love to devour, to each their own, right? With that said, you may be wondering how you can still satisfy your Chinese food cravings while being on the Paleo diet, and there are many ways in which you can do so.
Better To Make Your Own
The best thing that you can do when looking for Paleo Chinese food, or at the very least, the most Paleo options of Chinese food is to make it yourself. If you were to look at the macro content of such items, you would be astonished at how horrible the Westernized Chinese foods actually are. The MSG amounts and sugar contents are appalling as it is. When you make it at home, you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.
Visit The Asian Market
If you are going to take the advice mentioned previously, definitely take a trip to an Asian market. You can probably find some in your area, or at the very least, in the closest big city. It is recommended to visit the actual Asian markets because the ingredients are much more authentic and traditional as opposed to shopping in the ethnic aisle of your grocery store.
Stack Up On The Spices
One of the most important ingredients in Asian dishes consist of their spices, so you certainly want to stack up on them when at the Asian market. Everything from meat, seafood stir fry and any other Chinese cravings can be satisfied by sprinkling some of those spices onto your dinner. However, you can always create a dish with cashews, carrots, chestnuts, peppers and spices and use a Paleo noodle product and truly enjoy the Chinese taste.
Just as there is for everything else, there is always a Paleo answer. There are incredible amounts of substitutions that you can make to Chinese meals to keep your craving satisfied and as Paleo as possible. More importantly, they won’t alter the flavor that you enjoy so much. Instead of soy sauce, opt for fish sauce, coconut or sesame oil. Cauliflower is excellent as a rice substitution, and ribbon vegetables such as carrot, cabbage and zucchini are also excellent for other types of noodles. As for the flour, choose nut or coconut flour.
Make Some at Home
The easiest Chinese at-home fixes include cashews and mangos, honey and cabbage (instead of noodles), or you can purchase a Paleo noodle or make zucchini noodles. You can also make the majority of sauces with broth, arrowroot, chili pepper, spices honey, and ginger. Steamed vegetables are also an excellent compliment for any Chinese dish.
You may not be making a traditional Chinese dish, which isn’t what you probably enjoyed on the modern diet either, but at least you can satisfy your Chinese craving sans all the dangerous elements and ingredients.
